The involvement and objection of Maori in World war one
New Zealand is often recognised for the brave military efforts of her soldiers during the First World War. The light tends to be shone on Pakeha soldiers, and of those who fought, including the Maori Pioneer Battalion. Those who lost their lives are remembered on 25th April each year - ANZAC Day. However there are a group of people that are overlooked; those who resisted military service. Back home, there was another fight in motion. Hundreds of men refused to go to war, stating it was against their morals and beliefs, Maori included.
